Christmas Around Cambridge

Although small, the town of Cambridge is a powerhouse around the holidays. No, we’re not talking about the Cambridge in eastern England, but rather the one that we call home.

Every year, come November 1st this small Ohio town comes alive with holiday cheer. Statues fill the streets, the courthouse gets a little brighter and everyone appears to be jollier. Businesses put on festive events and onlookers get shows with a Victorian feel. It’s tradition for Cambridge to go all out for Christmas, but to someone who has never been a part of the experience before, it can be somewhat overwhelming. In this blog we’re highlighting some of the must see’s of the Cambridge holiday spectacular.

Light Show – The Guernsey County courthouse light show, is a MUST see on the Cambridge holiday list. In fact, we’re not exactly sure why this hasn’t been considered as a national treasure yet… The courthouse comes alive every night from the 1st of November to the end of the year with thousands, and we mean thousands, of colorful lights and synchronized music. It’s decorated to the nines with lights, twenty foot Christmas trees and multiple animated displays. The show, running from dusk to 11pm, is filled with a wide variety of Christmas tunes and fun for all ages.

Victorian Feel – Arguably the most festive and interactive holiday spectacle in Cambridge is the recreation of Victorian England through local attraction, Dicken’s Victorian Village. November through mid January, visitors can stroll through Cambridge and see Dickens-era scenes, as well as figures along Wheeling Avenue. Displays include, but are not limited to, town criers, carolers, lamplighters, street peddlers and Father Christmas. This public art exhibit is enjoyed by all, and give us a look at what life was like back in Victorian England. For more on Dicken’s Victorian Village click here.

Festive Events – If light shows or old Victorian England don’t get you in the mood, then maybe one of the local events will! All throughout November, December and even well into January, events focused on the holidays are unlimited. There are parades, trolley rides, caroling and events put on by local businesses. With themes ranging from Christmas themed cocktails for adults, to a fun elf for kids, to caroling brunches for the elderly, there is quite literally an event for everyone.
